Official documentPer NMC Act 2019 and FMGL Regulations 2021, NEET qualification is mandatory for Indian students wishing to practice medicine in India after completing MBBS abroad. No exceptions.
Minimum 54 months (4.5 years) of academic study + 12 months compulsory internship at the same foreign institution. Total minimum: 5.5 years. Must complete within 10 years of joining.
The medium of instruction must be English. This is a mandatory requirement for foreign medical graduates applying for Indian permanent registration.
After completing foreign MBBS + 12-month foreign internship, graduates must additionally complete a minimum 12-month supervised internship in India before applying for permanent registration with NMC.
Graduates must clear the National Exit Test (NExT) conducted by NBE to obtain permanent registration. NExT is replacing FMGE for all graduates — Indian and foreign. Check NBE for current status.
Students who acquired their foreign degree OR were pursuing education before November 2021 are governed by earlier FMGE regulations, not the 2021 NExT regulations.

Official documentNepal Medical Council recognises MBBS/BDS undergraduate degrees with a minimum academic duration of 5.5 years, which includes a compulsory 1-year internship.
All medical colleges in Nepal conduct all academic programs in English as the primary medium of instruction — officially confirmed by Nepal NMC notice dated 10 November 2024.
Nepal NMC provides provisional registration to all MBBS/BDS students in Nepal during their internship at teaching hospitals affiliated to their respective medical colleges.
After graduation, foreign nationals are eligible to take the licensing examinations as per NMC Nepal regulations. Upon passing, they obtain a licence equivalent to Nepalese citizens.
The Nepal NMC licensing procedure does NOT require a good standing certificate from the candidate's home country medical council — simplifying the process for Indian graduates.
